Rin, Music Videos
Rin has spent three albums building a small-town kid's fantasy at full scale, and Division asked us to give three very different songs from that fantasy their own worlds. Faberge, from 2019's Nimmerland, plays as pure escapism: a lounge lit magenta, a character mid-stretch, the hedonism of a rapper from Bietigheim-Bissingen living out a life as glittering as the Faberge eggs the title borrows from.
Das Rennen, a standalone 2022 single, opens with a line about winning the race like Red Dead Redemption, then turns inward: "I count only the days," Rin raps, "in my golden cage," ambition curdling into something closer to captivity. We answered it with an isometric toy town, a purple convertible looping the same block from day into neon night, a race with no finish line. Rot closes the trio on the opposite note: from 2021's Kleinstadt, its chorus sung in Swabian dialect, "niemand fragt mich mehr, was ist los," nobody asks anymore what's wrong. We built it as a hammock under a tree at sunset, a boombox, an arcade cabinet, the quiet end of a small-town evening rather than another party.
Together the three read less like a music video series and more like three moods of the same person: showing off, running from something, and finally sitting still long enough to notice no one's checking in.
